Pledge and Plant A Tree (PAPAT) 2019

On 28 December 2019, in conjunction with the celebration of the World Town Planning Day, the Kulim City Council organised a ‘Pledge and Plant A Tree” (PAPAT) 2019 by the river bank of Sungai Jarak, Kulim Hi Tech Phase 4. The event was jointly organised with a few national level of planning authorities and association. In the speech of the Mayor of Kulim City, Tn Hj Rohaizad Bin Hj Rashid, AMK, BCK, Kulim has been selected alongside 5 other cities to hold this significant event. Ms Oon Kim Wah represented Maica Laminates to receive from the Mayor of Kulim City Council the token of appreciation for the sponsorship of Maica .

Approximately 17 company sponsors, and a few NGOs, together with their representatives gathered by the River Jarak (near to Jalan Hi Tech 14) as early as 8.30am. As some of us are raised in urban areas, and presumably plowing soil for tree planting is a rare experience, we are excited nevertheless.

On this day, we were equipped with the most important tool, a hoe and a bag of fertiliser each. For the first time, many of us found it amusing as we actually had the opportunity to plant trees, just like what we see dignitaries do from time to time in the news.

What makes PAPAT more relevant to Maica is that we have been posting articles/videos/news on social media about stewarding forests and protecting the mother nature. When such an opportunity knocked for us to literally be a part of it, we were just overjoyed as we eventually had the chance to walk the talk. After all, Maica’s manufacturing plant at Lunas is not far from this spot. And, as a player in Kulim/Lunas manufacturing sector, it is instrumental to contribute to the green development at this area. For every tree we planted, we were given a tag, ‘Maica Laminates’, to hang around the tree for easy identification in the future.

Indeed, it is a very memorable experience that we got the chance to bless the mother nature in this way.
