An authentically Malaysian kind of company event: Durian feast

Food binds hearts together. What more the King of Fruits.

Durian is the King of Fruits in this part of the world. It is crowned for its rare pungent smell and creamy flesh. Malaysia has been exporting premium grades (Musang King, Red Prawn, Black Thorn) to China, or that durian tourism is well cherished by Asians, mostly, thus creating demand. The price of Malaysian durian has escalated in the last decade or so. Shockingly, the premium species, to some extent, have gone beyond the reach of some locals. So, a free ‘Durian Feast’ that comes with the premium grades of durian is definitely likened a meal with French foie gras or Italian truffles or abalone. It is simply irresistible for durian lovers.

On 29 June 2019, the management generously lavished some staff for a ‘Durian Feast’ at Balik Pulau. It prompted excitements, needless to say, for the durian lovers.

The funniest message ever from the management was that “you may eat all of you can but a day of MC on the following Monday would incur a fine of RM250”. Lol.

It is a dilemma, isn’t it? All because the heatiness of consuming durian might make one unwell. Yet, durian lovers are never deterred.

Off we went. Maica’s ‘Durian Feast’ has to be an authentically Malaysian kind of company event, amusingly.

Pictures are aplenty. Yet, it’s better not to tantalise some readers who happen to be durian lovers. Only a few are shown here.
